Currently, IGF Jena , SJE and TU Dresden are analysing data from our field study in the Koksu River in Uzbekistan in collaboration with EVINBO, BOKU and TIIAME. Our results show significant avoidance behaviour of snow trout within a downstream bypass designed to safely guide fish around a hydroelectric power plant. This is consistent with results from our previous ethohydraulic laboratory study, where we observed that spatial velocity gradients hinder smooth and efficient downstream migration. Improving hydraulic conditions and optimising bypass functionality are central to our work in the OptiPass project. By integrating fine-scale hydraulic modeling with tracking-based fish behavior data, we’re advancing our understanding of bypass efficiency. Once again, thanks to the Hydro4U-Team for the valuable support and collaboration during our fieldwork!
